Art Direction and Design
Katya and Ellie Duffy
Block is a new magazine for writing - review, reflection, story, poem, or polemic - on architecture, built space and the city and its representation or exploration through sketch, photograph or graphic image.
Block aims to present architecture's reflection across a wider field of contemporary culture, and its place within it.
Each issue is themed and the content combines documentary, commentary, opinion and critique, the fictional and the imaginary.
'a brilliant, beautiful magazine...'
Hugh MacDonald, Design Editor, Monocle
‘The production is excellent: square bound,
full-colour printed with a rich but restrained colour palette and a clean,
lively design…the text is serious, accessible and well referenced…’
James Pallister, The Architects’ Journal
‘…recent arrival…Block, a magazine for new
writing about architecture and the city.’
Elias Redstone, New York Times
'...diverse contributions...thought-provoking. The range of contributors is perhaps the magazine's strongest point, mixing views from artists, writers, historians, academics and architects. In this it recalls the mid-century heyday of the Architectural Review. '
Otto Saumarez Smith, Building Design
